Chapter One: Restless Sleep
You know a girl with hair like a flame and a heart full of fire. You remember how strong she was, how brave she was, how you looked up to her and admired her like no other. She was more important to you than anything in the world. You know she cares for you, you're sure of it, but with her fire you also remember her coldness, and how you could never truly live up to her legacy. You want her to recognize your strength and your bravery, to see her smile at you and give you praises.
You remember a great stretch of emptiness, more long and painful than the longest sleep you've known. She's been gone, for a long time. You're sure of that, though you don't know why or where. Maybe she left with your Keeper, or maybe she's still inside the house somewhere, or maybe she's somewhere else entirely. You don't know, but you do know you have to find her no matter what.
She's family, after all.
Transporting Tunnel CA
Chapter Two: Sleeping Beauties
The air is so thick you can barely breathe, but you swing your sword all the same. The plantlife here is strange, dangerous, and you burn it away with the fire at your fingertips. Mechanical creatures covered in twisting vines shuffle around you. You cut them down, smash their rusted weapons and burn the parasitic flowers to ash without hesitation.
You're not alone. You have companions, fighting alongside you. You can hear their shouts and the noise of clashing steel and flashes of strange magic from the corner of your eye. Arrows made of light and fireballs that fly in from behind you to strike down the enemies you can't reach. You're a team, and you'd trust them with your life, because you know they'd do the same for you.
The fighting drags on, yet no matter how many you kill more and more continue to pour in. There's something more important here that you have to destroy. You feel the pressure of the tension and poison in the air, the knowledge that you're racing against the clock, a lingering fear of some threat unknown to you.
Eve in Altera Core
Chapter Three: Madness In Spring
When you see the girl curled up inside the mechanical pod, you immediately panic. What the hell is a girl doing here inside the heart of Altera? She looks almost like she's sleeping, peacefully unaware of the danger she's in. You assume she's in danger. Well, it sure was dangerous just a minute ago, you recall, so a helpless sleeping girl definitely shouldn't be alone in a place like this.
You ignore your friends shouting behind you ("▒▒▒▒▒▒▒, what are you doing?!") and rush to her aid. It doesn't take much to bust the pod open, with your oversized bulk of a sword. Air hisses out and you're forced to shield your eyes and lean back as the mist rises up. It doesn't take long to clear. You're already wrenching the lid the rest of the way open when it does, and for a tense moment you stare at the unconscious girl with silver hair, unsure of how to progress from here. Fortunately, her eyes flutter open on their own, deep amber in colour and ringed strangely, like something not entirely natural. You're surprised as she stands up easily on her own, staring back at you with a confused look on her face. You smile, relieved.
"It's okay! You're safe now, we already took care of all the bad robots."
You wait for the heartfelt words of gratitude... and instead she just keeps staring at you. Maybe she was still in shock? She might need a moment to calm down... huh, that sure was a weird decoration on her forehead. What was keeping that gem stuck there, anyway? Maybe it was attached to those weird things over her ears?
As you ponder this, she finally seems to stir from her state of shock. Ah, excellent, finally some appreciation for your hard work—
"How dare you!"
Your vision explodes into stars. Your face is struck so hard you think for a moment your jaw might've dislocated, ears ringing, room spinning around until you lose your balance and topple over onto the cold, comfortless metal of the floor. This is the opposite of what you wanted.
Belatedly, you realize her odd features bear a striking resemblance to all the robotic creatures you just finished destroying.
Gratuitous Bear Murder
Chapter Four: Hearts In Darkness
You know these woods like the back of your hands, but under the shroud of night they look strange and unfamiliar. Your body aches, both from the strain of fighting and the injuries you've sustained, but the growls and rustling in the trees is enough to keep your feet moving.
Now would be a good time to head home, you think. Sis is probably worried by now. Does she even know you're out here? She went home before you did, she probably thinks you're still at the training grounds. She was pretty mad when she left, too... maybe she didn't notice you never came home. Maybe this is a test? Were you supposed to get mad and charge into the woods, alone, armed with only a training sword, until it was dark and you were hopelessly lost?
You catch a glint of light out of the corner of your eye. You dig in your heels, sword raised just it time to stop an enormous claw from goring your chest. Your arms scream from the effort. The bear roars, and with a flick of its paw it knocks you off your feet effortlessly. You hit the ground with a smash, rolling onto your side and spitting up blood. You feel your body start to give out. The sword slips from your hand as you lay on the grass, shaking from the pain and dread of the monstrous beast looming over you.
It growls and lunges for you again. You clamp your eyes shut.
